According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 32.8 km (12.7 mi). 32.6 km (12.6 mi) of it is land and 0.3 km (0.1 mi) of it (0.87%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 27,749 people, 9,886 households, and 8,037 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 852.3/km (2,207.1/mi). There were 10,320 housing units at an average density of 317.0/km (820.8/mi). The racial makeup of the CDP was 83.98% White, 8.02% African American, 0.23% Native American, 5.60% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.68% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.31% of the population.

There were 9,886 households out of which 44.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.2% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.7% were non-families. 15.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
